About Student-Built Homes
The homes were built by high school seniors enrolled in Erie 1 BOCES building trades program
. As part of public education***, Erie 1 BOCES offers more than 30
Career and Technical Education programs (CTE) during the normal school day to high school students across Erie County.
All auction proceeds will allow Erie 1 BOCES to purchase building materials used in future class projects. For more than 15 years, Erie 1 BOCES building trades students have built a house for public auction. A third student-built house, located at the Potter Career & Technical Center, is being built in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity.
Kenton Career & Technical Center has always been limited on space. Thanks to the popularity of tiny homes, 2017 provided a perfect opportunity to build a compact house. Their tiny house will be on display at the Buffalo Home Show
Most of Erie 1 BOCES CTE programs are two-year programs for juniors and seniors in high school. However there are a few one-year programs available. Also, 10th grade students may participate in a career exploration program where teens may test drive four-to-eight different programs. Parents and students interested in enrolling or for more information should speak with their high school guidance counselor.
